Contengono acqua e fibre e bassi livelli di grassi e proteine, inoltre sono un frutto poco calorico.
Sono ricche di micronutrienti, potassio, magnesio, vitamina C e alcune del gruppo B. Le prugne hanno funzioni antiossidanti, di regolarità intestinale e azione sia diuretica che depurativa.
